Pillars of Purpose (book)

Pillars of Purpose
When the author approached me about a leadership book he was writing titled Pillars of Purpose, I immediately had a design style in mind that would set this book apart. I wanted to start each chapter with a custom ink drawing. These "rough" pieces of art would hint at something mentioned in the accompanying chapter without giving anything away. The hope was that when a reader got to a specific part of the book that payed homage to the illustration, they would say "aha!" and feel like they found a special Easter egg. Apart from 19 different illustrations, I created the cover of the book as well as the logo. With a name like "Pillars of Purpose," the gut instinct is to portray columns in the artwork … boring! I landed on the idea of a treacherous mountain top with a flag firmly planted in its peak. This sums up the book well as it easily allows readers to imagine themselves achieving a life of significance, through all of life's winding roads and seemingly insurmountable obstacles. www.pillarsofpurpose.com
